Graduate Studies at the Nexus of Global Horticulture and Human Nutrition to Enhance Community Resilience and Food Security

This grant is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). According to the USDA-NIFA HEC homepage, projects supported by this grant create non-traditional approaches for creating educational models that address an international educational need. This project aims to help develop graduate students equipped to work in a globalized agricultural society faced with the critical issues of:

  • Global food security and hunger
  • Climate change
  • Sustainable energy
  • Childhood obesity
  • Food safety

Target objectives of this course include assisting graduate students in gaining an increased awareness of career opportunities related to global food security and hunger, community resilience, and childhood obesity, as well as increasing their understanding and appreciation for the global impacts of these core concepts.
