Global Horticulture and Human Nutrition to Enhance Community Resilience and Food Security

During our service-learning trip to Guatemala in the summer of 2019, we will be staying in San Miguel Escobar, working with the organization De la Gente. This organization works with small-holder coffee farmers and cooperatives to improve their quality of life through increased economic opportunities. Anticipated activities for this upcoming service learning experience include:

  • Working with cooperative coffee farmers
  • Learning about the global coffee trade
  • Exploring the local food market and cuisine of Guatemala
  • Experiencing artisan workshops
  • Working with community members
  • Learning about coffee processing
